This exceptional Victorian era bar pin (ca1880) has an artistic medieval inspired design! Crafted in 14kt gold, the piece?features?a detailed?portrait head of a medieval knight at the center.?The face is hand carved from an alluring moonstone, displaying a wonderful translucence and pale blue flash. The 3-dimensional carving is quite exceptional, including realistic facial features, a bearded chin, and a traditional medieval helmet. Delicate seed pearls line the neckline, and a single ruby is set at the center of the helmet in within an etched star. At either end of the gold bar is a delicate seed pearl accent, completing the wonderful design. A gold bar pin and catch rest on the back of the piece, and a curved hook at the top originally provided extra security when pinned to a fur garment. The pin comes in a velvet and satin-lined?antique box from the Victorian?era.?A simply outstanding piece, it is perfect for the Victorian jewelry lover?and would make a special addition to any collection!
Measurements: The pin measures approximately 2" long from end to end. The carved?moonstone?face?measures 5/8" tall, 3/8" wide, and 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the pin is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting, or to the carved moonstone, ruby, and pearls, all of which are intact. The pin clasp fastens securely and is in good working condition. The box shows normal signs of surface wear, but is in good condition and closes securely.
