In the late 17th century, a Venetian polisher named Vincent Peruzzi developed what is now known as?the "Peruzzi Cut" diamond. This beautiful fancy cut pre-dates the modern Brilliant Cut, and was adapted from an older style known as?the "Mazarin Cut." Originally, the Mazarin Cut featured 17 facets on the crown, which Peruzzi increased to a total of 33. This new addition of facets and their specific arrangement brought?greater liveliness and brilliance to the diamond. It also paved the way?for subsequent cuts, such as the more commonly known Cushion, Old Mine Cut, and Old European Cut varieties. Although the Peruzzi Cut is relatively rare in the modern day, its timeless beauty continues to enchant diamond lovers and collectors alike!
